PORTLAND - Harvest on the Harbor takes place for the sixth year Oct. 23-26 at Ocean Gateway here, overlooking Casco Bay, with a slew of chefs, restaurateurs, brewers, wineries and distillers.
New this year is International Maine: Taste of the World on Oct. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., $55 per person, offering an exploration of flavors of the globe with chef demos, beer, wine and spirits tastings and more. Live entertainment will be provided by Primo Cubano and Sylvain's Acadian Aces, in keeping with the international theme.
The event kicks off on Wed., Oct. 23 in the Ocean View Room at Ocean Gateway with the annual Grand Tasting on the Water, $65 , from 6 to 8:30 p.m. On Thurs., chefs compete for Maine Lobster Chef of the Year from noon to 2:30 p.m. Competing chefs include Chef Bandon Blethen, Robert's Maine Grill, Kittery, who will serve lobster fried in a light Allagash beer batter with smoked orange tomato sauce and a lobster reduction, complemented by Maine Yukon mashed potatoes with local Swiss chard and micro greens. Joining in is Chef Shanna O'Hea from Academe at The Kennebunk Inn who'll make "Lobster Lo'Maine" with fresh lo mein noodles, cilantro, scallion, sesame seeds and a white Miso dressing. Chef Chris Long from Natalie's at Camden Harbour Inn will present her Butter Poached Lobster, grilled lobster mushrooms, corn and artichoke ragout with tarragon butter.
Topping off the event will be a dessert demonstration by Alysia Zoidis from East End Cupcakes. Wines for the 3event will be paired with the chefs' dishes by Constellation Brand Wines. Squid Jiggers, a Maine-based folk duo, will provide entertainment for the sold-out event..
