The New Mexico Lobos marched through the college basketball season as one of the top teams in the nation. However, in the NCAA college basketball tournament, the three-seeded team in the West couldn't escape the first round as they fell to the Harvard Crimson on March 21, 68-62.
One former Harvard star was ecstatic with the victory as well.
"YYYYYEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!! HARVARD winssss!!! hahahahhah i told you.... #threepointgoggles #bracketbusters," Jeremy Lin tweeted after the victory.
It wasn't just a big win for the 14-seeded Harvard, but a dominating win. The score was not as close as the six point difference looks. With great three-point shooting, Harvard dominated the game and controlled the entire contest. After a big, strong season, New Mexico was overmatched by a low seeded Ivy League school.
This was only Harvard's fourth ever appearance in the NCAA college basketball tournament, but they are making their case for inclusion. They next face a tougher challenge in the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday. One more win, and Harvard could find themselves in the Sweet 16.
The thing is, Harvard could do it. After winning their first ever tournament victory, this team has a lot to prove.
“We knew they were going to be tough,” Harvard center Kenyatta Smith said. “We just had to be confident.”
