Home is supposed to be the safest place to leave our pets when we can’t take them with us.

Nothing puts a smile on your face more than returning home to that tail-wagging, happy-to-see-you, unconditional bundle of love waiting on the other side of the door.

But nothing can make you sadder, or be more devastating, than arriving home to find them gone. This is any pet parent's worst nightmare.

On February 27, when Amanda Denes returned home from work, she not only discovered that her house in the West End of Hartford, Connecticut had been broken into and ransacked, but missing were what she valued the most - her dogs, Burton and Zuzu. Watch her heartfelt video plea for their return.

After all, she describes them as her whole world, and many of us would agree.

It is uncertain whether the dogs were stolen during the break-in or if they escaped, but they can be just about anywhere now, which is why it's so important to share their story to help bring them home to their heartbroken mom.

Amanda has turned to social media to help get the word out, which is especially important now that West Hartford officials are telling her to remove the lost dog signs volunteers have hung everywhere. Watch video report here.

Both dogs, French Bulldog/Schnauzer mixes, had collars/tags on at the time of their disappearance, and are microchipped.

Anyone with information is asked to call Amanda at (973) 865-4004. She is now offering a $5,000 reward for the safe return of her babies - no questions asked.
