Harry Styles and Taylor Swift's relationship ended because she was jealous of other women in his life and didn't like that he still keeps in touch with his ex-girlfriend Caroline Flack, according to a tabloid report.
An unnamed source told the Daily Mirror in an article published on January 9, 2013: "Harry and Taylor had an incredibly intense relationship, and really did care strongly about one another. Sadly, it fizzled out just as quickly, and came to a head following a series of angry spats on holiday. Harry felt Taylor was nagging him, quizzing him on his intentions with various women and generally having very little faith in him. It all became too much and Harry found her a little too demanding. Taylor probably engineered the split but Harry held all the cards in the relationship.”
Another source told The Sun that Swift screamed at Styles during the argument that ended their relationship: "You’re lucky to even be with me!”
Styles, 18, is a member of "The X Factor" U.K. boy band One Direction. Grammy winner Swift, 23, is a country/pop singer. They went public with their romance in November 2012. He has a reputation for being a playboy, and he has admitted in interviews that he is a big flirt. She has said in interviews that she falls in love quickly and hasn't been able to have a long-term relationship. Swift is also famous for writing songs about her ex-boyfriends.
Styles, Swift and their representatives have not publicly commented on the status of the Haylor relationship, even when Swift and Styles were seen on high-profile dates and showing public displays of affection with each other.
Styles and Swift reportedly had a brief fling shortly after they met in March 2012, but she allegedly ended it when she found out that he didn't want to be in an exclusive relationship with her. (She saw photos of him kissing model Emma Ostilly on a date in New Zealand when One Direction was on tour in New Zealand in April 2012.)
Swift moved on to dating 18-year-old Conor Kennedy (the eldest son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.) from June to October 2012. Things got serious between Swift and Kennedy so quickly that she even bought a home worth millions next to the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. She and Kennedy have not publicly commented on why they broke up, but sources told the media that Kennedy got scared off by how intense things had gotten with Swift in a short period of time.
Conor Kennedy also had begun attending university, and his student lifestyle wasn't compatible with Swift's lifestyle of being a world-famous pop star. And shortly before Swift and Conor Kennedy broke up, American tabloid Star magazine published a report that Swift had cheated on him with his 19-year-old second cousin Patrick Schwarzenegger. (None of the parties involved in this alleged love triangle have commented on that report.)
Styles and Swift were first seen publicly acting like a couple when they were backstage at "The X Factor" U.S. in Los Angeles on November 15, 2012, when Swift was rehearsing for her guest performance on the show. After that, Swift and Styles were practically inseparable until the first week in January 2013. They had high-profile, jet-set dates in New York City, London, Utah, England, Los Angeles and the British Virgin Islands. (Paparazzi and Twitter photos documented many of these dates.)
People close to the couple began telling the media that Swift and Styles were "in love" and in an exclusive relationship. Swift started to look into buying a home in London, where Styles lives. Sources also told the media that Swift had wanted to be with Styles all along and that Conor Kennedy was just a rebound relationship for her. Some tabloids and bloggers even spread an unbelievable rumor that Haylor was getting married. But the Haylor romance all reportedly ended in the British Virgin Islands, where Swift and Styles reportedly broke up on January 4, 2013, after having a massive argument.
An unnamed source told the Mail Online (the Daily Mail's website): "Yes, I can confirm they have split up. They were on holiday and had an almighty row. They are two young stars at the top of their game so who knows what will happen in the future."
Another source told The Sun why Swift and Styles broke up: “Taylor knows she’s far more high-profile in America and way richer, and saw her career as more important. She always brushed off his schedule and needs and put hers first. When he complained his band mates were getting irritated and she should do more to make things work, they started to yell crazy things. Taylor even yelled he was lucky to be with her. There were also problems over commitment. Harry wasn’t committed enough for her liking.”
Swift has previously dated actor Jake Gyllenhaal (in 2010), actor Taylor Lautner (in 2009), musician John Mayer (in 2009) and singer Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers (in 2008). All of these relationships lasted for just a few months. And just like Styles, Gyllenhaal and Lautner are constantly rumored to be secretly gay.
After Styles broke up with "The Xtra Factor" co-host Flack in January 2012, he was romantically linked to several women that year, including Ostilly (who was in One Direction's "Gotta Be You" video), model Cara Delevingne, photographer Sarah-Louise Colivet, singer Lily Halpern, singer/actress/former "X Factor" Australia judge Natalie Imbruglia, model/actress Emily Atack and former "Made in Chelsea" co-star Caggie Dunlop. Styles has never publicly confirmed that he has dated these women. Flack is the only woman he has publicly admitted to dating since he became famous. Shortly after he and Flack split up after a four-month fling, Styles said on Twitter that their breakup was "a mutual decision."
Some people are also wondering if the Haylor split is a temporary breakup in what could be an on-again/off-again relationship. Could Haylor be just like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez (the teen-idol couple nicknamed "Jelena"), who have broken up and gotten back together multiple times?
However, given Swift's dating history of having relationships that last just a few months, most people predict that she and Styles won't get back together. And even if they do, most people believe that the total duration of the relationship will be less than four months. (Bieber and Gomez's on-again/off-again relationship goes back to 2010.)
After Swift left the Virgin Islands to go back to the U.S., Styles stayed in the Caribbean paradise for one more day before he flew back to New York City on January 6, 2013, and then headed back to London (where he lives) on January 7, 2013.
Eyewitnesses say that Swift seems to be taking the breakup harder than Styles is.
A traveler named Mike Zavafbo saw Swift at St. Thomas airport shortly after the split, and he told the Daily Mirror: “She looked really sad and lonely, really down. We had heard she was down there with Harry Styles from One Direction, but the impression that I got was that they must have had a fight. I don’t think she was crying but you could tell that something was visibly wrong.”
Paparazzi photographed Swift clutching a bottle of red wine while she arrived at a friend's house in Los Angeles. (The Sun published some of the photos.)
Meanwhile, after the breakup, Styles was seen partying with billionaire Richard Branson and Branson's friends on Necker Island, where Branson has several properties. There's a Twitter photo of a smiling Styles with Branson and some unidentified women and men in a hot tub.
And apparently, Styles wasted no time in acting like an available guy, since he reportedly began flirting with one of the women at Branson's party. According to what the friend told the Daily Mirror, Styles could not keep his eyes off of Hermione Way, a 27-year-old British native who now lives in San Francisco and is one of the stars of the now-cancelled reality show "Start-Ups: Silicon Valley," which was televised in the U.S. on Bravo. Way was in the widely circulated hot tub photo with Styles, Branson and three other men and one other woman.
An unnamed friend told The Sun: "Harry was fuming as the row with Taylor got really bitter and a lot of things were said that they both didn’t mean. But by the time he arrived at Sir Richard’s place and saw the luxury and women holidaying there, he soon calmed down. Not only that — by the time he jumped in the island’s hot tub and splashed around with Hermione he was back on form. He couldn’t keep his eyes off her all the time he was there. Hermione’s a really bubbly girl who’s not shy about showing off her body or having a good time."
When asked by people on Twitter about her encounter Styles, Way has reportedly been saying that nothing happened between her and Styles. The "Start-Ups: Silicon Valley" bio for Way has this description of her: "Hermione Way is a trained journalist and savvy marketing specialist transitioning from covering technology news to making it. Recently taking on the role of start-up co-founder with her brother Ben, she struggles to find the balance between her Silicon Valley connections and Ben’s business sense." ("Start-Ups: Silicon Valley" debuted in November 2012 and was cancelled one month later after getting low ratings and mostly bad reviews.)
As usual, Styles was greeted by fans (mostly female) when he arrived at Heathrow Airport in London. An onlooker told the Daily Mirror: "He seemed really happy to see the girls waiting for him. It definitely didn’t look like there was anything wrong.”
Styles and the rest of One Direction are back to work in London and currently rehearsing for the group's 2013 world tour. OK! magazine (U.K. edition) reports that during a break in rehearsals on January 8, 2013, Styles had lunch at Yo! Sushi with Nick Grimshaw, 28, the BBC Radio 1 DJ who has become Styles' best friend. Styles and Grimshaw (who is openly gay) won't comment on persistent rumors that they are more than friends.
