One Direction's Harry Styles, 19, and Grammy winner Taylor Swift, 23, were never in love, and he now reportedly wants to date Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, 22, who is one of Swift's closest celebrity friends. That's according to what British tabloid the Daily Star has reported in articles published on March 1 and March 2, 2013.
Styles and Swift (who were nicknamed "Haylor" as a couple) publicly dated from mid-November 2012 to the first week in January 2013. Paparazzi and tabloids documented Haylor's public displays of affection, including passionate kissing, cuddling, and holding hands while on their jet-set dates, which took place in Los Angeles, New York City, Utah, the British Virgin Islands, London and other cities in England.
While Styles and Swift were both in New York City together in December 2012, the media also reported that Styles would spend the night at Swift's hotel. Swift also went to England with Styles in December 2012 to meet Styles' family. Styles met Swift's mother on several occasions in Los Angeles. Naturally, there are paparazzi photos that document a lot of what happened during the ill-fated Haylor relationship, which reportedly ended badly.
There have been conflicting reports about who broke up with whom and why the relationship ended. Some of the reports said that Swift broke up with Styles because she suspected him of cheating on her and she was jealous of other women in his life. Other reports said that Styles dumped Swift because she's supposedly asexual and she wasn't meeting his sexual needs.
Styles, Swift and their representatives aren't publicly commenting on what went wrong, but Swift has given the impression that she's bitter about the breakup since she has made thinly disguised digs at Styles during her performances at the 2013 Grammy Awards and 2013 Brit Awards. Meanwhile, although Styles won't specifically comment on his relationship with Swift, he has complimented her when he has been asked her about her in interviews since the breakup. He told Grazia magazine in February 2013 that Swift is "a sweet girl" and "I don't have a bad word to say about her."
Swift and One Direction were at the 2013 Brit Awards (in London) and the 2013 NRJ Music Awards (in Cannes, France), but by all accounts, they avoided each other and didn't communicate with each other before, during and after the ceremonies.
Swift and One Direction are on separate tours and aren't expected to cross paths again until the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, where they are sure to be nominated for multiple prizes and will perhaps perform at the show. The date and location for the awards show are to be announced, but the MTV Video Music Awards usually take place on the second Sunday in September, and will likely take place in Los Angeles or New York City,
One Direction is the biggest-selling worldwide act to emerge from "The X Factor." The group (which came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010) has had No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries and has been winning numerous awards.
Freddy Negrete, a tattoo artist at the Shamrock Social Club tattoo shop in West Hollywood, Calif., where Styles has gotten many tattoos, has blabbed details to the Daily Star about what he thinks of the failed Haylor relationship. Swift famously was with Styles on a "date" at the tattoo shop in December 2012. (And, of course, paparazzi and fans were there to take photos of that too.)
Negrete told the Daily Star: “Harry and Taylor didn’t seem in love at all. There wasn’t a sparkle in Harry’s eye. They were kind and respectful to each other but didn’t have stars in their eyes. They seemed more like friends. Harry wasn’t in love and it wasn’t serious for him. They weren’t romantic at all. He was just casual – they weren’t staring into each other’s eyes. Taylor came towards the end of his ship tattoo and sat with him but there was nothing magical going on.”
Negrete confirmed that Styles is addicted to getting tattoos: “Harry’s got tattoo fever now. If you get a tattoo and you like it you want more – it happens to a lot of people. He wanted Hebrew lettering and came in with his sister’s name written out. When I told him I was Jewish he was thrilled and said it was very fitting and the right guy was doing it. I like doing his tattoos. It’s always fun. We have a great time. He talks right through his tattooing. He’s witty and I like that."
Meanwhile, an unnamed "pal" of Styles told the Daily Star that Styles now has his sights set on dating Lawrence, who won an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook." Lawrence's career is also red-hot because she stars in the "The Hunger Games" blockbuster movie franchise. Swift also has a connection to "The Hunger Games" franchise: Her Grammy-winning "Hunger Games" song "Safe & Sound" (featuring the Civil Wars) is one of Swift's many hits.
The unidentified source told the Daily Star about Styles' interest in dating Lawrence: "Harry likes goofy girls and thinks it's hilarious that she fell over as she went to accept her award for Best Actress. And obviously, like most men, he thinks she's drop-dead gorgeous. He's been begging mutual friends who know Jen to put the word out for him so they can hook up next time they're in the same city. Harry is quietly confident because he normally gets whichever girl he sets his sights on." In a few interviews, Styles has described Lawrence as "hot."
Lawrence's most recent ex-boyfriend is British actor Nicholas Hoult. The former couple dated for two years before they split up at the end of 2012. The breakup wasn't reported until January 2013, since Hoult and Lawrence both kept their relationship fairly private. Besides being actors, they also have the "X-Men" franchise in common. Hoult and Lawrence have both played mutants in "X-Men" movies. "X-Men: Days of Future Past," which should be released in 2014, will be the former couple's first "X-Men" movie together.
Swift's publicist denied a tabloid story that Swift tried to get Lawrence to hook her up with Lawrence's "Silver Linings Playbook" co-star Bradley Cooper when the three stars were at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. The tabloid story also said that Cooper rejected Swift's advances. Cooper, 38, later told the media that even if the story were true, he's not interested in dating Swift because he thinks she too young for him.
Sources have also denied tabloid reports that Swift and Ed Sheeran (who are doing a North American tour together in 2013) are dating each other. Sheeran is a good friend of One Direction, which has recorded some of Sheeran's songs, including the hit ballad "Little Things." Swift and Sheeran have reportedly had late-night songwriting sessions together that are strictly platonic. Swift famously writes breakup songs about her ex-boyfriends (although she won't publicly say which of her ex-boyfriends inspired which songs), and people are waiting to see what songs she'll inevitably write about Styles.
And then there are the constant rumors that a lot of Styles' high-profile womanizing is faked for publicity. During the Haylor relationship, many stories began appearing (or were planted) in the tabloids about how Styles and Swift were "madly in love," with unnamed sources saying that Styles and Swift were telling their families and close friends that they were in an exclusive, serious relationship with each other. Some tabloids even spread a far-fetched rumor that Swift and Styles might elope.
Alice Montgomery's "Harry Styles: An Unauthorized Biography" claims that the Haylor romance was a publicity stunt cooked up by One Direction's management so that Styles could benefit from all the attention he would get from dating Swift, who is a bigger star than Styles in the United States and other countries.
Meanwhile, numerous One Direction fans on the Internet say that Styles is secretly gay or bisexual and that he is really having a romance with his best friend, Nick Grimshaw, 28, who is a DJ at BBC Radio 1 and openly gay. These fans also believe that Styles and One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, 21, were also romantically involved with each other, but Grimshaw has replaced Tomlinson as Styles' main man.
When Styles and Grimshaw are in London together, they are inseparable. They party together, have meals together, spend the night at each other's homes, and wear each other's clothes. Tabloids have hinted that Styles and Grimshaw are really lovers, but the two men aren't commenting on the rumors.
Styles has not publicly named anyone he's been dating since his four-month fling with "The Xtra Factor" host Caroline Flack ended in January 2012. Whenever Styles is asked interviews about whom he is dating, he avoids answering the question or is deliberately vague. But when Styles is asked about his relationship status, he says he is single and available.
