Several insiders have told me that One Direction's Harry Styles, 19, and Grammy winner Taylor Swift, 23, plan to avoid each other when they both attend the 33rd Annual Brit Awards on Feb. 20, 2013, at the O2 Arena in London. One Direction and Swift will not be seated near each other, and they plan to arrive at the show far apart from each other so there's no chance that they will be standing near each other on the red carpet.
These plans should come as no surprise, since the former couple avoided each other when One Direction and Taylor Swift attended the 2013 NRJ Music Awards on Jan. 26 in Cannes, France. One Direction and Swift both performed separately on the show, and One Direction won the prize for International Group or Duo of the Year.
One Direction and Swift are also scheduled to perform separately at the 2013 Brit Awards. They are also nominated for prizes at the show. One Direction is up for Best British Group and Best Brits Global Success. Swift is a nominee for Best International Female Solo Artist. One Direction will perform a remake of Blondie's "One Way or Another" (which goes on sale in the U.K. on Feb. 17, 2013), while Swift is reportedly going to perform "22."
One Direction has become the biggest-selling act worldwide to emerge from "The X Factor." The group came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, and has since had No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries,
Styles and Swift (who were nicknamed "Haylor" as a couple) publicly dated from mid-November 2012 to the first week of January 2013. They reportedly met at the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles, and then had a "secret" short-lived fling in April 2012 that ended because Styles reportedly did not want to be in an exclusive relationship with Swift. She then moved on to date 18-year-old Conor Kennedy (the eldest son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.) from May to October 2012.
Swift and Styles rekindled their relationship after the breakup of Swift and Conor Kennedy. But the Haylor split was reportedly very bitter. There have been conflicting stories in the tabloids about who broke up with whom and why. Some reports said that Swift dumped Styles because she was jealous of women in his life, while other reports said that Styles dumped Swift because she's celibate and wasn't meeting his sexual needs. And there has been constant speculation that Styles and Swift's romance was faked for publicity.
In January 2013, tabloids reported that Swift had flown to London after the breakup and before the NRJ Music Awards to confront Styles and possibly convince him to get back together. However, if that meeting happened, it apparently did not go well, since there is no indication that Styles and Swift parted on good terms.
The Brit Awards will be the last awards show in several months that One Direction and Swift will attend at the same time. One Direction launches a 2013 world tour on Feb. 22 in London, and the tour will last for most of the year. The next major awards show that Swift and One Direction will likely attend at the same time is the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), where they are sure to get multiple nominations. The date and location of the 2013 MTV VMAs are to be announced, but the MTV VMA ceremony usually takes place on the second Sunday in September.
Swift made headlines for making an apparent dig at Styles when she performed her hit "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 10, 2013. Even though the song was reportedly written about Jake Gyllenhaal (who dated Swift in late 2010), Swift seemed to be talking about Styles (who is British) in a spoken introduction to the song when she performed it at the Grammys. Before launching into the song, Swift said in a fake British accent: "So he calls me up and he's like, 'I still love you,' and I'm like, 'I'm sorry, I'm busy opening up the Grammys.'"
Most of the public's reactions were negative toward Swift, as many people on the Internet described her apparent swipe at Styles as being "immature," "petty" and "bitter." Her on-stage comments at the Grammys also convinced many people that she had been the one was dumped, since she was apparently acting like a scorned ex-girlfriend
One Direction was not at the 2013 Grammy Awards since the group was not nominated for any Grammys and was in the midst of tour rehearsals in London.
Styles, Swift and their representatives have refused to make any official comments about the "Haylor" relationship.
Since One Direction and Styles will be at 2013 Brit Awards, expect the cameras to show many reaction shots of Styles and Swift when either is on stage at the awards show.
