Harry's Law gave President Obama a verbal slap on Sunday night. The popular Sunday show laid responsibility for a bad medical contraceptive law squarely on the President. In stark contrast to the over control of the government in medical contraceptive issues, was the sexually suggestive "hottie contest." The promotion of the morning after pill to underage minors while conducting the legal beagle’s “hottie” contest on air seemed a bit odd.
The slaps to President Obama came as the show allowed a 17 year old teenager to educate America on the pertinent facts of the morning after pill. Taking the witness stand the girl started out by saying she was angry at Obama but would still vote for him. Expressing her anger at Obama’s decision to override the medical community and FDA recommendations – the pill was not allowed to be an over the counter drug sold to all females of child bearing age.
The producers of this show did a great job of presenting the issues and the facts, and brought up a few questions. Is the topic popular? Well, maybe not with parents, but it is important. There were jabs at the ability of Americans to teach basic sex safety to our kids. We all know parents and schools try to teach kids about sexual matters, is the show correct? Do we really leave sex safety up to the teenagers to teach each other? Did the FDA get it wrong - or are the standing laws wrong?
Harry's Law is one of the best TV dramas out there. The show deals with great topics and handles them well. Even thought this case did not present a legal defense as much as an emotional defense - it was a vehicle to pointing out both sides of the issues. Harriet is a sizzling lawyer who handles sizzling topics. We for one are glad that the show does not feel the need to remain politically correct, taking aim at anyone responsible for bad laws – even if that person is President Obama.
Harry's Law airs on Sunday's on NBC at 8/7c.
