Baltimore families are invited to the Maryland Science Center to discover the world of insects until April 29, 2012 during regular museum hours. In partnership with Terminix, the Maryland Science Center presents Harry’s Big Adventure: My Bug World!
Featuring Harry, a Chinese praying mantis, and thousands of insects from many different habitats, it offers many family-oriented activities.

Insects are fascinating creatures that fuel our imaginations, whether in our dreams or nightmares. Living in their own alien world, they are like beings from another planet. These adaptable creatures crawl, creep, and fly around us. Without them, we would not have flowering plants and many animals would lose a major food source.

Insects first appeared on Earth 410 to 435-million-years ago. The oldest insect fossil, found at Rhynie Chert, Scotland in 1919, is around 400-million-years-old. It consisted of fossilized mandibles (jaws).
