Harry Riley promises "millions" will overthrow Obama (for real this time)

Despite having already tried and failed (in epic proportion) once to lead a violent overthrow of the Obama administration in November, advocates of the far-right are already promising to do it again.

This time operating under the title "Operation American Spring", the rally is being organized by Harry Riley, who believes "millions of Americans will participate," despite himself having been one of the 100 attendees of Larry Klayman's Nov. 19th rally, which was also promised to draw over a million participants.

Also like Klayman, Riley draws his inspiration from the thoroughly undemocratic military coup in Egypt against the democratically elected Mohamed Morsi.

"I don't consider the operation I'm working on as my initiative," he writes. "A number of us have settled on an approach which we call OPERATION AMERICAN SPRING(OAS). It's modeled after the people in Egypt(Cairo) who said 'enough is enough' and went to the streets by the millions and stayed there until a resolution. We surely in America are saying 'enough is enough'. That's what we’re doing with OAS.

"It’s not the typical 'go to D.C. for a day' and then go home, and we're not having stages, speakers, etc in our plan. If someone else want to do that, have at it. We're going with millions in the streets for a day or two and then leave a million or so in D.C. for weeks, months, whatever it takes. We'll interfere with traffic, bridges, make our mandate known and stay there until..........?"

Riley proceeds to list his expectations for OAS:

  • "Millions of Americans will participate."
  • "American veterans and patriots are energized to end the tyranny, lawlessness, and shredding of the US Constitution."
  • "Government is not the target, it is sound; corrupt and criminal leadership must be removed."
  • "Those in power will not hesitate to use force against unarmed patriots exercising their constitutional rights."
  • "Patriots may be killed, wounded, incarcerated."

Riley lists these as "assumptions," though it would be more accurate to call it wishful thinking at this point.

So far, Riley has only attracted the support of the most ardent of wingnut democracy-haters; Jim Garrow and Erik Rush being chief among them.
