Harry Reid’s opponent is the sanest person I know

If Senator Harry Reid’s conservative opponent is a kook, then call me crazy.

Reid’s nemesis, Sharron Angle, is a grandmother, a small business owner, a former teacher and Nevada legislator. She talks to her grown children and neighbors daily about their struggle to keep their jobs, pay their mortgages and educate their kids in the economic disaster zone known as Nevada.

She is me. And she’s the sanest person I know.

Sharron wants to dissolve the Department of Education and bring our education tax dollars back to Nevada, so we can decide how to best use those dollars to educate our kids. Considering our state’s education is ranked the lowest in the nation, I'd say it's definitely time we took control of our children's education away from the Feds. As an ex-teacher, Sharron knows the Department of Education has failed us.

Angle wants to protect the retirement savings of our seniors by giving us our own Social Security accounts, so the Feds can’t raid the Social Security Trust Fund to make their own sky-rocketing budget deficit look smaller. I’ve been controlling my retirement funds for the past 30 years. No one touches my money, honey, and everyone should have the same privilege, frankly.

Sharron wants to reduce the power of the federal government. She wants to cut taxes and eliminate onerous government regulations that restrict free enterprise. That’s the right angle in my mind.

What’s crazy about wanting to give more power to We, the People, and less power to the rich, ruling class?  That's what our Founding Fathers fought for, remember? And by “rich ruling class,” I mean people like Harry, who became one of the wealthiest men in the nation over the past 24 years, while he was supposedly living on a fixed, Senator's income. As most Nevadans know, our illustrious senator was privy to lucrative Las Vegas land deals, filling his retirement portfolio with millions, while the rest of Nevada experienced a reversal of fortune so severe that Harry can no longer look us in the eyes and claim he's one of us.

While Harry became rich and powerful, we became poorer and more dependent on government support. Reid lives in luxury at the Ritz-Carlton, paid for by taxpayers. Sharron lives in a modest Reno home, near McQueen High School, where my sons proudly play Lancer football. If you call her house and if she’s not there, her husband Ted will proudly answer any questions you have about his wife’s campaign. She's a hometown gal who worked tirelessly in the uber-liberal Nevada legislature for 10 years, voting more than 100 times to lower taxes for her family, neighbors and fellow Nevadans. She endured her fellow legislators' wrath and ridicule, because she held fast to her conservative, small government principles. She was a Tea Party patriot long before anyone knew what that was.

Sharron knows that government can’t create jobs… unless they are government jobs paid for with our sweat-teared tax dollars. As a senator, her job will be to create an environment that allows businesses both big and small to prosper, because we all know that businesses create the jobs that spur the economy and provide economic security for all of us. The government doesn’t do that, we do, by electing the right people to represent us in Washington.

If Sharron Angle’s small government, big people views are extreme, then I’m certifiably crazy.

And proud of it.
