Raise your hand if you agree with this statement: Americans are willing to pay more in taxes. Look ma, no hands!
Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader and American omniscient extraordinaire, made the announcement on Nevada radio station KNPR. Speaking for all Americans, Reid declared that “everybody” is “willing to pay more” taxes, according to Weekly Standard.
The radio host asked of Reid what Republicans would need to give up for Medicare and Social Security cuts to be considered. Reid redirected his response away from any 'grand bargain' while ranting on about Republicans continuing negativity without noticing any of his own. He demanded that Republicans would be required to agree to raise taxes.
“They have their mind set on doing nothing, nothing more on revenue, and until they get off that kick, there’s not going to be a grand bargain…there’s not going to be a small bargain,” Reid said.
So, here’s Harry Reid articulating his famous “my way or the highway” rebuke with different words. If that weren’t enough, Reid now mouths the presumptuous declaration that Americans look forward to paying more tax.
Judging by Americans’ response to the Majority Leader’s remark, he speaks not for the majority any more, if for any tax-weary Americans at all.
The party of 'wouldn't,' Reid's pet name for Republicans, would no more raise taxes on Americans willingly than they would declare that Americans would want their taxes raised. But Harry Reid, being an operative of dictatorial government, has no problem putting words in our mouths.
