'Harry Potter' star Rupert Grint on 'Regis': 'good decision to split in two'

'Harry Potter' star Rupert Grint on 'Regis': 'good decision to split in two':  -- Actor Rupert Grint appeared on Live with Regis and Kelly Monday morning to talk about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, which comes out Friday.

Rupert Grint has been making the Harry Potter movies for a long time. Asked how old he is now and how old he was when he started, he answered, "I'm 22 now; I was 11, so half my life."

The show displayed a photograph of Rupert Grint with co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in a scene from the first Harry Potter movie. Mr. Grint said the scene was the last scene in that movie, but it was the first scene they ever shot together.

Kelly Ripa talked about the perfect comic delivery he had for every line, even at 11.

About making the movies, he said, "I loved it; it was fun."

Regis Philbin asked him about the money he's made from all of these movies. Did he ever buy something unusual? Mr. Grint replied:

"I suppose the ice cream van was quite special. It was something I always wanted for some reason. I don't drive it around so much anymore. I find if you drive it around, people queue up. They want ice cream."

The last day of filming Harry Potter, however, he pulled it up to the set and served ice cream to everyone.

Asked if he receives unusual gifts from fans around the world, he answered, "Mainly pajamas, weirdly."  Any favorites? He has a silky Japanese pair that are "quite nice."

Kelly Ripa mentioned how faithful the films have all been to the books and that she thinks each book has gotten darker.

About this movie, Rupert Grint said, "This is like a whole new level of darkness. We're out of the school now. We're out on the run. It's quite tense."

"I think it was a good decision to split them in two," he added about the two films being made from the final book.  "It allows us to get more of the book into the films."

The clip from Deathly Hallows showed a dramatic scene where Ron Weasley, played by Rupert Grint, is wearing a horcrux around his neck causing his and Harry Potter's friendship to be challenged.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 has its premiere in New York Monday, but it opens in theaters November 19, 2010.
