'Harry Potter': Emma Watson speaks English to David Letterman (video)

'Harry Potter': Emma Watson speaks English to David Letterman (video) -- On the show to promote her new film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, actor Emma Watson talked to the Late Show with David Letterman host about the differences between American and British English.

Emma Watson is a sophomore undergraduate at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. David Letterman asked her about her experience living in the United States, and the young actor spoke about making a few mistakes in thinking Americans would understand English the same way she does.

"I didn't realize how big the culture gap is," Emma Watson said. "It's actually much more significant. I thought it was going to be 'tomato,' 'to-mah-to,' a few very minor language differences, but day to day I find things I'm unable to communicate."

One day, for example, she was bleeding "quite badly" and asking for a 'plaster.' "They had no idea what I was talking about," she said. "Honestly, it took about five or six minutes to work out that what I wanted was a band-aid."

David Letterman pointed out that this says something about American kids, that they can see someone bleeding and not figure out on their own that what you need is a band-aid.

Emma Watson is in the United States studying history, but she is also currently promoting the most recent Harry Potter movie which opens Friday.
