In September 2012, I posted a story entitled “A Plea from Harry the FeLV Positive Kitten” seeking financial support for RescueCats’ efforts to build an addition to the Shelter in Fayetteville, Georgia to house a litter of FeLV (feline leukemia) positive kittens. RescueCats raised the funds to build the addition and named it “Harry’s House” after one of the kittens.
Harry was adopted last weekend and is settling into his new forever home. Here is a tribute to Harry written by RescueCats’ volunteer Terry Britt and posted on volunteer Bill Crockett’s Facebook page on Feb. 2:
“Today our Harry went home with Michelle and Jason of Douglasville. We all spent about an hour together and Harry immediately warmed to them.
He will be joining a family which consists of another FeLV kitty, who will be Harry's companion, two other cats, dogs, parrots, fish and turtles make up the household. What a menagerie! Harry will have his very own bedroom with his new buddy and two windows to peer out into the world.
It was bittersweet to see him go, as he is the namesake of Harry's house, but we are confident that he will be loved and nurtured in this wonderful family. Goodbye Harry. We will miss you and your wonderful way of making us feel loved. You, who was dealt a harsh hand in life at the start, never let that stop you from sharing your love and affection to your brother, Heinz and sisters, Hannah, Hilary and Hailey and to our sweet Melville and to those of us fortunate to be able to care for you.
You may be gone from our presence but not from our hearts. Yet, at the end of the day it is a celebration, for both Harry and his new family! So weep not for him, but rejoice with him as he found his furever family and they found their furever Harry!! We look forward to seeing him in a HAPPY TAILS story.
Michelle and Jason had been looking for another FeLV kitten so their current one could have a buddy with no success until they ran across RescueCats and our remaining FeLV kittens. So glad they did.
All of us at RescueCats want to thank Michelle and Jason so very much for giving Harry a home with a new buddy!”
The RescueCats’ Groupon fundraising campaign is scheduled to run from Feb. 7 – 13. Stay tuned to the RescueCats’ Facebook page for more information on how to make a donation during the campaign. Funds raised during this campaign will help maintain Harry’s legacy by providing future support for the FeLV cats living in Harry’s House.
