Harry Connick Jr. is joining Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban on the panel of judges for “American Idol” season 13. It's official, no more rumors and jockeying of names, Connick Jr.'s placement is official. He will judge the contestants this time around with his fellow singers, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Aug. 30.
Up until the news that Connick inked the contract, it was Dr. Luke who was the front runner for the third judge on the “American Idol” panel, but conflicts with his label at Sony Music caused him to drop out of the negotiations.
It was reported earlier this week that Fox was treading carefully with their pick, as they were reluctant to bring another female judge to the panel after the conflict between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj last season. Jennifer Lopez is too professional to get caught up in a Carey-Minaj-like war of insults and she most likely would have done fine with even the most opinionated person they could conjure up, but it looks like Fox aired on the side of caution.
Randy Jackson steps into the role of mentor for this up and coming season of “American Idol.” Urban, Lopez and Connick joined Jackson at a small party on Thursday night throw by Idol producer Simon Fuller to celebrate the beginning of a new season.
