Italian Lake is one of Harrisburg's most treasured spots for getting some much needed R&R and fresh air. The lake is part of a 9.5-acre park surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and textured walkways. The red Japanese-style bridge is a popular backdrop for wedding and prom photographs. Take a walk around the lake with some friends, or bring your best furry friend — dogs are welcome, too, but must be leashed. Enjoy a picnic on the grass or have a seat on one of the benches to take in a good book.
In years past, free concert events were held every Sunday at Italian Lake during July and August. Due to lack of funding, these events have been cut back to the second Sunday in June, July and August and are sponsored by Riverside United Neighbors. The lake is an easy 20-minute drive from Bortek Industries.
In June, sibling band "The Seasons" brought their fusion of Celtic, folk and bluegrass music styles to Harrisburg. Octavia Blues Band will play on July 14; Octavia has toured with notable names on the Blues scene such as Etta James and opened for Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Jeffrey Gaines. Folk duo Voxology will play August 11; they have been crowd favorites at the Italian Lake Concerts from years past. Donations are welcome, but not required.
The concerts are free to the public and are a great way for visitors to get a feel for Harrisburg.
