Harold Ramis says 'Ghostbusters 3' shoots this summer, Sigourney Weaver talks rumors

What's going on with "Ghostbusters 3"?  A lot, actually.  Hear it from Ramis below.

Today we have the news-- straight from Egon's mouth, no less-- that "Ghostbusters 3" is finally going to go before cameras this November.  After months of speculation, hemming and hawwing about the script (from two writers on "The Office"), and that bizarre rumor about Bill Murray appearing as a ghost, it finally looks like "Ghostbusters 3" is set to become a reality.  Read on for all the details, my gentle Examiner readers...

Just a couple weeks back, we ran a story wherein Sigourney Weaver-- out and about doing press for "Avatar"-- dropped the bombshell that Bill Murray would be appearing as a ghost in the forthcoming "Ghostbusters 3" (more on that in a minute).  Now comes the news that the film will go before cameras this summer, this time from another of the film's stars-- Harold Ramis.

In an interview with Heeb Magazine, here's what Ramis had to say when asked about the sequel:

Heeb: Here comes the Ghostbusters question: What’s up with part three?

Ramis: Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future ... GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011 … Oh, and I have two one-of-a-kind Ghostbuster yarmulkes sent by fans.

So, there we have it.  But no comment on the "Bill Murray as ghost" rumor?  We're still not sure whether or not there's any truth to that rumor, as Weaver made it clear that she hadn't read the script for the film yet and was referring information she'd heard through someone else.  For those that missed it, her's Weaver's quote about the "dead Bill Murray" thing:

I haven't read the script," she said. "They're sending me the script. I guess my little son Oscar who was kidnapped is a Ghostbuster, which makes me very proud. So [director] Ivan Reitman called me the other day and said he would love me to take a look at it. In a few weeks I'll actually know what it is, though I probably won't be able to talk about it."

I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don’t think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it - he’s a ghost."

So, there we have it folks.  Let's recap what we've learned from all this quotation action: New Ghostbusters will appear in "Ghostbusters 3" (years ago, it was rumored that Will Smith and Chris Farley would appear, but-- for obvious reasons-- we know that at least half of that rumor's false now); Oscar, Weaver's son in the second film, has grown up to be a Ghostbuster; Bill Murray may or may not be dead and appearing as a ghost; and, finally, that the film goes before cameras in November.

We'll have to wait and see if any of this is true, but for right now these are the best leads we have to go on.  What do you think, folks?  Like these ideas, or are they weak sauce?  Sound off in the comments section below; we wanna hear what you have to say about 'em!  And, while you're here, check out some of these other recent Comedy Examiner articles:

This can only suck. I hope the trailer reads, FROM THE GUYS BEHIND THE SMASH FAILURE ON EVERY LEVEL YEAR ONE!

Ramis is done. I thought Year One was it, but looking back he hasn't done anything right since Groundhog day. The Zombieland team should be writing and directing this instead.

This has the fetid, rank smell of DOOM written all over it. Why would TPTB want to pour bucks into a long dead premise?! The days of Ghostbusters is long gone - some ideas should just remain locked in the vault where they belong. "Land of the Lost" anyone? These folks - Ackroyd, Ramis, Murray just aren't funny anymore and no movie is going to resurrect their glory days.
