According to the Canadian Press on Thursday, Canadian Olympic medalist Curt Harnett of Toronto has been named Canada's Chef de Mission for the 2015 Pan American Games from July 10-26, 2015.
Harnett has won three Olympic medals in his career--a silver in the men's 1000m cycling time trial at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and two bronze medals in the men's match sprint cycling competition at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Harnett has also had great success at the Pan American Games as well. He won a gold medal in the men's 1000m cycling time trial and a bronze medal in the men's match sprint cycling competition at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis.
Since his retirement, Harnett has been very active with the Canadian sports scene. Among his endeavours are a very active role with Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, an assistant chef de mission at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, and has been on the board of directors of the Canadian Cycling Association.
