It was bound to happen.
Those who follow Rock Band’s Facebook page might have noticed this announcement posted today:
Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!
That was the entirety of the announcement. No systems named- though it seems safe to assume it will hit the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360, no word on if there will be new instruments, and no word on what groups or musicians will be featured. What this does mean is that at least two Rock Band games will be released this year, the other being Green Day: Rock Band.
While not confirmed, one such artist might be Jimi Hendrix. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, his sister Janie Hendrix told them that Sony would make Hendrix’s music “available through every type of media,” one of which was a new Rock Band game.
Shortly after this came out, Harmonix released the following statement:
“While we have not made any official announcements regarding Jimi Hendrix and Rock Band, we are excited to say that we are in discussions to bring more of his music to our platform. Stay tuned.”
So while it means no Jimi Hendrix: Rock Band, he might be featured in Rock Band 3. Hendrix already has a Rock Band appearance, as “Fire” is featured in Lego Rock Band.
