So, you love your motorcycle, and you love cats. Who doesn’t? How do you employ the former to help the latter? One way is a charity ride this Saturday (Caturday?), May 17th, known as “Harleys for Charley”, Don’t worry, all motorcycle makes are welcome. Yes, even Triumph riders. The ride will benefit Friends Forever, A Cat Sanctuary (FFACS) http://www.ffacs.org , located at 359 Nevada Street, Auburn, CA. The sign up and congregation takes place at the main gate of the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, beginning at 8:30 am. The group departure is scheduled for 9:00-ish, but you know how these group rides go, so be flexible. Destination is Auburn Recreational Park, (123 Recreation Drive, Auburn) where a BBQ lunch and raffle awaits riders and non-riding participants.
FFACS Executive Director, Shirley Hartford, heads a dedicated team of 20-25 regular volunteers, plus 100-130 others who intermittently help runn the organization. FFACS is a No-Kill Adoption facility that has placed 1,550 cats during its six years in operation. They generally have 70-75 cats in house available for adoption at any given time, but have had as many as 110. When circumstances require, they also participate in T-N-R, Trap-Neuter-Release.
FFACS functions entirely with private donations and fund raisers, receiving no funds from the city, county or state. That’s where you come in, this Saturday. Registration is $25, but includes your BBQ lunch, catered by Max’s Grill. This is FFACS’s first-ever charity ride, so come on out and help make it a purrfect inaugural event.
Until next time, stay tuned and upright,
