Pirate Speedway on occasion has a theme night this past Friday was Harley Night and was quite a show for the riders, racers and fans. Harley Night usually features a Parade Lap out onto the field do a couple of laps and then stop for the Pledge of Allegiance. It is quite a sight as the infield is crowded with Motorcycles their riders and all of the racers.
The Harley Riders came in groups one came Quaid Harley-Davidson in Loma Linda and another group came from Hwy 66 Choppers in Montclair.
The Harley Riders can also take part in their own race in this case there is one heat and one main. In this case Speedway racer Chris Wiggins won both of those events on his Sportster and of note he won the main with a blown head gasket, I noticed he had quite a lead in the main race and was looking like he was getting ready to lap the other Harley Riders but back off a bit at the end, I asked Chris about this and that is when I found out about the blown head gasket.
Also on this night the Mini bikes took the track in this case mini bikes can be any brand or size of dirt or dual purpose motorcycle many of the regular racers also ride their dirt bikes on the track. Two rows of riders took part and the minis like the Harleys are a crowd favorite and it is hard to describe the combined sound of two cycle and four cycle exhausts on a closed course but it is very cool.
In addition the regular heats and mains took place for the 125,250 and pee wee classes.
If you missed this show, there is another Harley Night on June 13, 2014. The rules are simple if you ride in the parade you and your bike get in free, passengers still pay the normal entry fee. Riders can go directly to the track or take part in a group ride and there is free parking for the Harleys.
