Harley-Davidson, whose history with the military dates back to World War I, has announced that the company raised over $160,000 for the United Service Organizations or USO during their fundraising campaign. The funds raised will go directly to send care packages to troops who are overseas over the course of the next year. Harley-Davidson Owners Groups and Harley-Davidson dealerships throughout the country, including those located here in the Bay Area in South San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose, collected the funds in honor of Military Appreciation Month and the holiday giving season between November 1, 2011 and December 31, 2012.
Mike McCann, Director of Core Customer and Military Marketing for Harley-Davidson expressed his gratitude for the successful campaign. “We’re incredibly grateful to our loyal customers and dealer partners who helped us make this partnership a big success. We’re always looking for new ways to support our military men and women, and we’re proud to have been able to work with the USO on this effort.”
The funds raised by Harley-Davidson will pay for care packages which include snacks, toiletries, phone cards and two complimentary tickets to the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There will be approximately 250,000 tickets donated.
Kelli Seely, USO Sr. VP and Chief Development Officer expressed how thrilled the USO is with the donation. “These care packages are very important to our troops. They provide them with a touch of home and way to connect with their loved ones. We’re thankful that Harley-Davidson was able to step up and support an effort that means so much to the USO and our troops.”
