Harley-Davidson Museum to Host Military Display

On Saturday May 17, Milwaukee will celebrate Armed Forces Week at the Harley-Davidson Museum. The public is invited to participate in the celebration by visiting the museum grounds where attendees will be able to view an array of displays. Multiple branches will showcase weapons, equipment and have interactive displays for all to view. Participating branches include the U.S. military, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

Specific elements on display include:

· Weapons, interactive displays and a rock climbing wall provided by the Army

· An armored Humvee, weapons and a chin-up bar provided by the Marine Corps

· Aircraft firefighting equipment and a refueling aircraft engine provided by the Air Force

· Rescue equipment and a small cutter vessel provided by the Coast Guard

Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with members of the military to learn more about their experiences in the field.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also on Saturday in conclusion of Armed forces week, the 11th Annual Support the Troops ride will take place. The event kicks off with a complimentary pancake and sausage breakfast at Hal’s Harley-Davidson in New Berlin. Event registration and breakfast begin promptly at 9 a.m. with the ride itself taking place at 11 a.m. The ride will conclude at the Harley-Davidson Museum with a 21-gun salute, taps and wreath laying.

The 2014 Milwaukee Armed Forces Week, to be held Monday, May 12 – Saturday, May 17, is a joint effort of the Milwaukee Armed Services Committee, comprised of members of the United States Army, Navy, Air Forces, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and National Guard, as well as Milwaukee-area citizens and veterans. Its mission is to increase public understanding of the role of the military in a democratic society as well as honor and acknowledge Milwaukee area men and women serving in the Armed Forces of the United States.
