The world renowned Harlem Globetrotters will make a stop in Winston-Salem on March 24. The Lawrence Joel Veteran's Memorial Coliseum will host them for a 2:00 pm game.
Known for their basketball games infused with flashy moves and pranks, they were founded in 1926 and were called the Savoy Big Five. In 1927 their name was changed to the Harlem Globetrotters and they began to tour the country playing various teams. It wasn't until 1941 with the addition of Reece “Goose” Tatum did the team begin to develop their comedic routines. In 1946 Sweet Georgia Brown, which many associate with the team became their theme song. Ironically, they did not play their first game in Harlem until 1968.
In 2011 they celebrated their 85th anniversary of bringing fun, laughs and basketball to millions of people around the world. To purchase tickets visit Ticketmaster or call 336-725-5635.
