The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region, a non-profit that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities build better lives, will host its First Annual Harford Hills Bike Adventure on Saturday, April 27, 2013.
The ride will begin and end at the historic Steppingstone Farm Museum in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Participants can choose between a 31 or 64 mile loop through the scenic hills of Harford County and along the Susquehanna River. The starting time for both routes is between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. and all riders are required to wear helmets.
The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region offers a wide variety of services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, both children and adults, in Harford and Cecil counties, to make informed choices with their lifestyles, vocations, education and recreational pursuits, and to assure stable and nurturing lives among their families and friends.
According to The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region development director Julie Chmura, the event is designed to be a fun way to bring the community together while celebrating the vision of The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region to help individuals with disabilities lead personally-valued lives.
“The Harford Hills Bike Adventure perfectly aligns with our core values of respect, self-determination, inclusion, responsiveness and community building,” says Chmura. “We are excited to be able to connect and engage the community with the people we support in a new and meaningful way, while raising money to provide support for our programs.”
Early registration is $65 per rider and will increase to $70 on March 8, 2013 and $75 on April 12, 2013. All riders must register online at active.com. All registered participants will receive an event shirt, complementary post-event food and drink and free admission to the Steppingstone Farm Museum. All proceeds will benefit The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region.
"As a parent of a child with autism, The Arc of Northern Chesapeake Region has been wonderful in helping not only my child, but also my family with support. They do amazing work and Harford County is so lucky to have them here," Arc supporter and parent of a 15 year old autistic boy explained.
