On tonight's episode of "Hardcore Pawn" at Detroit's famous American Jewelry and Loan a shop that is never without conflict, Seth was removed from his position as boss, when Les objected to his rules.
As the episode begins, Les is back, after removing his son from running the shop. When he arrived early, he checked the books and called a meeting of the entire staff. He found that all operations are down, and he wants American Jewelry & Loan back on top. The entire staff is on probation, including his son Seth and daughter Ashley. Ashley knows that when Les is fired up, just let him go, but Seth has other ideas.
A man comes into the shop with what he calls a dinosaur egg. He has no documentation to back up his claim, but tells Seth and Ashley. he wants $1,500 for it. He also has a large piece of quartz crystal. Les knows that Bob is an expert on fossils, rather than have Seth and Ashley waste their time with the guy. Bob told him the quartz was worth no more than $100, and the man left. Then Les told both of them he would monitor each of their transactions.
Two guys came in with a collection of cigarette lighters that was their grandfather’s collection. They want $5,000 for the entire collection. Seth goes to the back with Bobby J to check out online sales. When they came back out, they saw that Les had taken over the deal, which was no deal. Seth was very upset that Les took over the deal and gave Les a piece of his mind, one piece that Les did not want to deal with.
A woman came to one of the windows demanding top dollar for a necklace that clearly was not real gold. When Ashley heard her cursing and yelling, she came to the window, as the woman persisted in her demands. When Ashley came out on the floor, she told her to stop screaming. Ashley then noticed her watch and checked it out and gave her a loan against it for $250. Rather than losing a customer, irate or not, she made a deal. When Les complimented her, Seth heard and just shook his head in disgust.
A man came in with a lithograph signed by John Elway and Brett Favre with certification. He also had a set of small football helmets for all NFL teams that were only made in 2000. When Les went to ask Seth for his help, because of his expertise in sports memorabilia, Seth told him where to go.
Subsequently, Les made the deal by himself and took Ashley off probation. Seth, on the other hand, will remain on probation until his father sees an improvement in his attitude. Les knows that someday his children will take over the business; until then, he is still in charge as he related on this episode of "Hardcore Pawn."
