Hardcore Gamer Living in a Freemium World - A Brief Rant

Gaming to me can seriously be a chore sometimes, but that's the way I like it. I prefer to grind and be rewarded realistically for my time and effort. What I hate is being nickel and dimed for some mediocre mobile game. These games are addicting and fun if done right, but the freemium business model is a real drain for me.

I haven't paid for a single freemium game feature (on my phone) and I probably never will. We all have these amazing gaming machines in our pockets and freemium games are the best we can come up with? Come on! I am way happier spending a dollar on a game than playing a game for “free” and being forced to buy in game currency so I can afford the cool stuff. Call me old fashioned, but I seriously despise freemium mobile games. All this ranting and raving is getting me no where and I have to check on my virtual fish tank real quick.

Now since my fish are fed and the tank is clean I can get back to this rant. It still bothers me that it costs real money to buy a rock for my fish tank. A rock? Seriously, a rock? That bothers me to no end so I am going to refuse to do it. And my little fish will go without a rock in their tank until my grinding can afford me a nice big rock for my fish tank. Too bad for them and me for that matter, that is going to take awhile.

I always tell myself that I will quit playing the freemium games, but I never do it. If you check out the top games on your phone 75% of them will be freemium experiences. You can't say no to them. I don't see how most people put up with it. Maybe I am making a big deal out of nothing. Maybe I need to shut up and boycott the game. Or maybe I should just fork over the small amount of money so my poor little fish can have a rock, but I can't bring myself to do that. We all need to just boycott these unfair business models and voice our opinion with our dollars. Eventually the developers will get the picture and fix the problems.
