Body art, skimpy bikinis, rock star wanna-bes (and the genuine thing) jam the bar and pool at the new Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs. They arrive in droves on Thursday (even in the ‘shoulder’ low-rate late spring and summer season) and the party like there’s no tomorrow. After all this is a R&R themed-property with music memorabilia everywhere you look.

Even with overly-amped music blaring everywhere the place emits a laid-back vibe, there’s no hurry and yet the staff is efficient. Room service arrives on schedule and the egg white omelets are delicious and cooked perfectly. The coffee is strong as requested and ice water served in pitcher (all enjoyed on the balcony overlooking the pool and mountains).

The property provides an oasis in which to unwind and veg out with an inviting, but small and shallow pool a surrounded by chaises and cabanas (that you rent). There’s a Jacuzzi and bar with a with attendant who brings you free ice water or drinks and food. Towels are doled out liberally with no need to sign waivers, a nice touch.

Room are surprisingly spacious and equipped with custom furnishings and all the right creature comforts such as flat screen TVs, robes, mini-bar stocked with drinks for sale, work desk, free Wifi, comfy beds covered in quality linens and nice signature Hard Rock toiletries.

There is a resort fee that covers parking and other amenities and a well-run restaurant called Sessions (review to come) that closes early (8 p.m.) from Sunday to Thursday (we almost missed a meal). There is also an active bar/lounge where young tipplers gather to down to signature cocktails, beer and wine. If you’re into Rock and Roll memorabilia you will love this place with its wall art, musical instruments and other genre reflective décor. There is a spa dedicated to head to toe treatments but no steam or sauna.

Pet owners can bring well-behaved dogs that weigh less than 20 pounds for an additional fee of $75 per stay.

Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs is located in the heart of town at 150 South Indian Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, 760-325-.9676. Low seasonal rates are available now for $89 and up and there are always packages and specials.
