Harbour Pointe Golf Club review

The 9th green at Harbour Pointe Golf Course

Harbour Pointe Golf Club is par 72 stretching to 6861 yards from the back tees. There is a full grass tee driving range, practice green, and short game practice area. In 1991, Golf Digest rated Harbour Pointe the best new course, and in 1996 called it the 2nd best public course in the state.

As you drive up to Harbor Pointe Golf Club, all you see is apartment and condominium complexes. You start to think you will be playing on a course lined by homes all the way through. As you stand on the first tee, apartments run along the left side of the first fairway, but they are removed enough to not come in play for all but the worst tee shots. There are homes scattered around the course the rest of the way, but they are hardly noticed from this golf oasis. This course will keep you focused on your game.

While it is an 18 hole layout, it is more appropriate to say it is two nine hole courses, each with its own unique flavor. The front nine is relatively flat, with water on most of the holes. It’s the northwest style of target golf, as your shots must be precise, or you will be dropping a new ball. The back nine only has water in play on the 10th hole, but is very hilly. The signature 11th hole has your second shot almost dropping off a cliff to the green. The views of the Puget Sound are remarkable from this hole, and may distract you as you stand over you ball in the fairway. Stay focused! It’s a tough shot down the hill to this postage stamp of a green with two bunkers waiting for any shot hit too far.

Harbour Pointe is a joy to play, and each hole presents its own unique challenge. There isn’t any back and forth golf here, where if you hit and errant drive you just march to the parallel fairway for your second shot. The few holes that are adjacent one another are lined with a thick stand of trees that no golf ball can penetrate, making each hole feel isolated from the rest of the course. This course is a hidden jewel that should not be overlooked.
