Harold Ramis dead: 'Ghostbusters' star was a legendary comic genius

Harold Ramis is dead at age 69. The "Ghostbusters" star passed away on Feb. 24 in his Chicago home. The cause of death, according to his wife Erica Mann Ramis, who talked to the Chicago Tribune, was complications from a rare disease called autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis.

Harold Ramis' decline in health allegedly began four years ago, sometimes making it tough for the Hollywood personality to use his feet. He reportedly had to relearn how to walk at one point.

By way of background, Harold Ramis' body of writing work includes some classics, like "National Lampoon's Animal House," the vehicle that launched John Belushi's career. He also scribed Stripes" (1981) and "Ghostbusters,"the latter in which he also starred as Egon Spengler, one of the three lead characters.

Ramis directed the 1980 hit "Caddyshack" and the 1983 film "National Lampoon's Vacation" in addition to "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This."

The actor/writer/director was mentioned in a press release from his spokesperson, saying that Harold's "creativity, compassion, intelligence, humor and spirit will be missed by all."

Harold Ramis and his wife Erica have two sons Julian and Daniel, a daughter named Violet and two grandchildren.

RIP Harold Ramis, RIP.
