Happy World Card Making Day 2013

October 4, 2013

What a great excuse to stay in on a rainy Saturday. Celebrate the 8th annual World Card Making Day Saturday, October 5, 2013. With Thanksgiving just around the corner you can spend the day making your holiday cards or stocking up on cards for the entire year. If you like a good party, plan to celebrate with like minded crafters with a card or supply swap accompanied by snacks and even adult beverages.

Perhaps you could take the opportunity to learn how to emboss or make your own paper or some other technique. Or you could make some cards to brighten the life of a hospital patient, nursing home residents or our armed forces. There are any number of organizations such as Operation Write Home or Snail Mail for Seniors that can help direct your cards. Other ideas can be found on the World Card Making Day official website.

If you are really proud of your work, consider entering it in the official World Card Making Day Card Contest. There are five possible categories: Birthday, Christmas/Season's Greetings, Hello/Thinking of You, Love, and Thank You. You can enter more than once, in different categories, but you can only win in one category. All entries must be postmarked by October 15, 2013. A removable label with your name, address, daytime phone number, e-mail address, and a detailed description of instructions and supplies used to create the card should be attached to the back of the card. Cards will not be returned. More details about the contest and prize package can be found on the official contest website.
