Gary Meyer isn't the only one who was happy with the Birthday celebration for Julia Child. With rave reviews and by popular demand, Mr. Meyer has announced the RETURN OF THE CAKE-OFF AT THE BALBOA THEATRE. "So many people have asked us to do it again that this Sunday, Sept. 6 will be the return of the Julia Child Bake-off," he exclaims.
This replay of the August 15th event allows anyone who brings a homemade cake to the Balboa Theatre to recieve one free admission. The August 15th event garnered 33 cakes for movie-goers to enjoy. "So many people have asked us to do it again that this Sunday, Sept. 6 will be the return of the Julia Child Bake-off" explains Meyer.
This event is emblematic of the spirit and Joix de vive reflected in Julia's passion for food. According to The United States of Arugula, Julia lived for some time in France, and "was shocked and disturbed upon her return to America to see acquaintances eating Swanson's frozen TV dinners" (118). This set her off on a culinary quest to make cooking accessible, resulting in the cooking show on PBS for which she is most renowned."
