When Mars moves into a square with Saturn there is difficulty on a personal level expressing physical energies and getting work done. Mars wants to be aggressive and Saturn says to hold back. Accidents can happen especially sprains, broken bones or anything that forces you off your feet and keeps you stuck at home to recuperate. You could have issues with your employers or parents. Anyone with authority over you will be assertive and resist your efforts or get in the way. There is a feeling of pressure and frustration. With the square occurring in the fixed signs it will be even more frustrating.
On a national level, the difficulty in settling the fiscal cliff issue and the Hurricane Sandy funding is a good example of the Mars Saturn square even though the situation is common in the hallowed halls of Washington DC. Conflict of authority is shown by the obstinacy and combativeness between the president and Congress.
Scorpio, Capricorn and Aquarius people will feel it starting right now and some Aries and Leo folks, and also if you have the Sun, Mars or Saturn in these signs. If you have the Moon in one of these signs you may feel more emotional, sensitive, depressed or moody during this time. Life takes on a dismal cast. Women may have problems with the men in their life. I know at least one lady in Bergen County who has been having trouble with her Scorpio husband recently. He is remote, moody and difficult. Fortunately Mars is moving quickly through Aquarius. The Mars Saturn square will be exact around January 7-8. During the following week the pressure will let up and the picture will look brighter.
The best way to deal with this energy is to exercise patience. Take things slowly. Work on projects that require planning, focus and concentration. Physical labor is fine but remember, take your time. Be careful handing knives and other cutting instruments. Be careful while driving. It is possible to get a lot done but only if you don’t rush and try to stay serene and grounded when you work on something. In your relationships, be patient and understanding and try to see the other person’s point of view.
Having Aquarius rising and Saturn in Scorpio I used to have trouble during this transit. Now when I see this one coming I try not to take things too seriously. I don’t get upset. I find a project to do that involves concentration, measuring, planning, drawing or building.
Two years ago, when Mars last entered Aquarius, I wrote: “... many people may notice a distinct change in energies. The hardworking, patient, determined Capricorn attitude will give way to contrariness, rebellion and a push for radical change. Aquarius is not the best place for Mars but it’s not the worst, either. Mars combined with the Aquarian/Uranus energy is a little like fireworks. It comes unexpectedly and can be exciting but you can get burned…”
Remember that this transit is a relatively short one. In about two weeks things will start moving more smoothly once again. For more about the Mars Saturn square read Robert Wilkinson’s insightful article at Aquarius Papers.
Reminders: The forecast for January is now posted at Celestial Navigation. Also Abma’s Farm Market in Wyckoff, Bergen County is open year round. One of the last working farms left in Bergen County, Abma’s is perched up on a hill outside of town. The charming farm market has beautiful produce, baked goods and country style gifts. Come and check it out!
