Happy Milk Day: In the 'moood' for milk?

Besides International Thank You Day, January 11th also celebrates a beverage millions of folks around the world enjoy every single day. It's Milk Day, an annual holiday that celebrates that delicious, healthy and refreshing drink we love - milk.

Legend has it milk was delivered in glass bottles for the first time on this day back in 1878. Back in the day, you didn't have to run to the store to pick up a carton of milk. It was actually delivered right to your door.

Got Milk?

While most milk comes from cows, people also consume milk from other animals, including goats, sheep, water buffalo and camels (which doesn't curdle, by the way.) Milk is also available in a slew of different varieties - full cream, whole milk, Low-fat, skim, buttermilk, organic and chocolate, to name a few.

Health Benefits of Milk

Whether you prefer yours straight out of the glass, in a hot cup of Joe, in your morning cereal or with a few delicious cookies, milk not only tastes good, but is good for you, too! Heck, even Santa Claus loves milk!

Milk contains vitamins, minerals and calcium, which plays an important role in bone health. Research suggests that a diet rich in calcium food products can cut both the physical and emotional symptoms of PMS by half. Milk also promotes good oral health. And drinking a glass of milk before going to bed may improve your quality of sleep, too.

Milk Fun

And speaking of milk, National Milk Chocolate Day is also celebrated every year in July.
