October 11, 2013 is officially “I Love Yarn Day”. Really, who would not love it any day of the year? With all the different colors, styles, gauges; going to a yarn store is kind of like going to a candy store without the calories. The same skein of yarn given to 10 different crocheters or knitters will yield 10 completely different projects (all beautiful of course). With all the patterns available for purchase, or free online, the possibilities are endless.
So how do you celebrate “I Love Yarn Day”? The Craft Yarn Council’s site is full of ideas, free patterns and even “I Love Yarn Day” gear. Facebook and Twitter have been buzzing for weeks. Many of the on line yarn and craft sites, such as Annies Attic (subscribers only), JoAnn Fabrics, Yarnspirations (Bernat, Patons, Caron, Lily), Lion Brand and RedHeart Yarn are offering special promotions just for the day. Knit/Crochet for charity organizations, such as Warm Up America, are using this day to promote their causes. A list of other crochet and knitting related websites featuring “I Love Yarn Day” are provided below.
Maybe you are thinking about the holidays and would like to start some new projects. There is plenty of inspiration out there with completed projects shown on Pinterest. Free patterns are available at All Free Knitting and Crochet Pattern Central, as well as the yarn sites Yarnspirations, RedHeart, and Lion Brand Yarn. Several of them do require you to sign up, but all of the information is free.
