Happy Fall Y'all: Fall Arts and Crafts

When the weather starts getting chillier, that can only mean one thing. Fall weather is here!

Time to break out the sweaters, apple cider and craft projects! The colors of changing leaves, festive wreaths, swags, fall centerpieces and home made decorating projects can make you feel warm inside when its cold outside.

Sunflowers and daisies are the perfect fall flowers. Create a festive fall wreath for your door by gluing a bunch of silk or paper flowers to a grapevine wreath or green styrofoam floral ring.

Make a sign out of wood or felt that says “Happy Fall Y'all” for your door. Purchase some artificial apples at a craft store and make a fall topiary by securing them with hot glue to the base. Find autumn themed fabric at your local fabric store to make an easy table runner. Rusts, reds, oranges and browns look great or find a fabric with a festive leaf and pumpkin print. Buy a yard or less, cut into a rectangle shape, hem the sides and you'll have a table runner.  Add triangle points on the end and a tassel to the two ends to hang off the end of the table or hang on your front door.

Search your yard for leaves of all shapes, sizes and colors.  Maple and oak tree leaves are beautiful, ferns look great too. Purchase a sheet of homemade paper, lightly sponge brown paint on the sides or distress the edges of plain paper to make it look vintage and write "Fall 2011" on the bottom. Place it in a solid color frame for a contemporary display. Less is best. One large leaf with a smaller leaf looks great in an 8x10 frame or two smaller leaves would look nice in a 5x7 frame. One bag of leaves can go a long way for plenty of fall crafts so you can save money.

-Cover a lamp shade with fall colored leaves attached with straight pins. Cut colored leaf shapes out of felt to attach to a pillow.

-Make a fall swag by starting with eucalyptus branches or a straw broom.

-Cover it with leaves, a small pumpkin, pine cones, dried corn and ribbon attached with floral wire.

-Decorate the swag with a big bow and place it on your door or table.

-Make your own potpourri out of cloves, cinnamon sticks and dried rose petals.

Fall means Halloween costumes, Thanksgiving crafts for family traditions and turkeys made out of paper hands. Get ready for the fun and get crafty!
