Police are running out of time as they chase a truck-driving serial killer who has murdered eight women over a five-year period and taunts local police by leaving his signature smiley face on letters to police.

"The Happy Face Killer" is based on the true story of serial killer Keith Hunter Jesperson, a Canadian truck driver who savagely killed eight people between 1990 and 1995. Also known as the 'Smiley Face Killer,' Keith Jesperson confessed to the killings and was sentenced to life in prison by an Oregon jury in 1998.

His daughter, Melissa G. Moore, has since written the book "Shattered Silence" about her experiences with her serial killer father, according to ABC News.
