'Happy Endings' scoop: 'It's Always Sunny' actress to annoy Penny

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star Mary Elizabeth Ellis, better known as "The Waitress," is headed to Chicago-based comedy "Happy Endings."

According to TV Line, who first broke the news on Thursday (February 9), Ellis will guest star on the ABC sitcom as Anna, a childhood friend of Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) and Jane's (Eliza Coupe) who decides to pay them a visit.

However, she isn't exactly met with open arms by Penny (Casey Wilson), who becomes increasingly annoyed by how unbearably nice she is. Anna's overly friendly demeanor even leads one of the girls to fake a pregnancy just to get rid of their former pal.

Ellis, who is married to "It's Always Sunny" co-star Charlie Day in real life, was most recently seen on FOX's "New Girl" as Nick's (Jake Johnson) ex-girlfriend.

Her other TV credits include NBC's short-lived series "Perfect Couples," which starred fellow "Happy Endings" guest stars David Walton and Hayes MacArthur.

The site also reports that Dave (Zachary Knighton) will be getting a visit from someone from his past in an upcoming episode. Actress Mikaela Hoover will return as "rebound girl," the young brunette Dave randomly hooked up with after Alex left him at the altar.

"Happy Endings" airs Wednesdays at 9:30/8:30c on ABC.
