Almost exactly a year ago, LA TV Insider Examiner visited the set of Happy Endings here in Los Angeles and brought back news of what we knew would be one of the most fun and soon-to-be classic episodes featuring the gang all together: "Kickball 2: The Kickening." But then ABC never aired the episode, and boy were our faces red. We got fans excited for nothing. Well, as it turns out, not completely nothing. The episode did air overseas and was available (albeit illegally) online for months, but now ABC is finally airing the "lost episode."
Since "Kickball 2: The Kickening" was shot as part of the second season, Dave (Zachary Knighton) and Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) are not back together in the episode. Nor is Penny (Casey Wilson) with Pete (Nick Zano). It may be a little jarring for you to see this episode so drastically out of order, but hey, at least you're finally getting to see it, right!?
Series executive producer Jonathan Groff felt that way, noting that if fans "treat it like it's just a rerun," the continuity won't feel as weird.
The episode was not even put on the season two DVD box set release, but hopefully now it will make its way onto season three as a bonus feature.
The episode features Lance Briggs as himself and shows off uber-competitive Jane (Eliza Coupe) once again when Alex convinces everyone to play on the kickball team that her store is sponsoring for the city-wide tournament. Jane is the lone friend to turn her back on the team, defecting to another, more winning team instead. It actually looks like Alex's team might have a chance, though-- until Dave keeps freezing up every time it's his turn.
Happy Endings airs on ABC on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. and Tuesday nights at 9p.m. "Kickball 2: The Kickening" airs on January 13th 2013.
