As we get older, more of our friends, family members, and colleagues are jumping into relationships and/or getting married. Everywhere you turn people seem to be coupled up. As your birthday approaches, you start to feel a little discouraged that you don't have a special someone that will shower you with romantic gifts and attention that you can brag about on Facebook (Let's be honest. Flaunting love is the new "it" thing to most social networkers.). It's easy to get caught up in what's going on around you, but it's time to stop letting what others do and how others date set the standard for what you decide to do in order to enjoy your own life. Who says single girls can't enjoy their birthdays just as much as girls in relationships? Here are a few ways that you can bring in the next year of your life fabulously.
Girls' Night Out. Nothing says "happy birthday" like a traditional night out with the girls! Step into a sophisticated yet sexy outfit for the night, and dance the night away with some of the most important people in your life. Just because you don't have a significant other does not mean you don't have significant people to share your life's events with.
Shopping and Spa Day. If you have to spend your birthday alone, a nice option would be to spend the day being pampered. Take the day to treat yourself by buying some of the things that you've had your eye on all year. You don't have to wait for someone else to buy you the things you desire. Top off the shopping spree with a relaxing evening at a spa. Nothing like a soothing massage, facial, mani/pedi session to bring in your new year of life. This is a perfect way for those that are more low-key to enjoy their day without having to worry about making a big fuss.
Take a trip or a cruise. If you are the type that loves to just get on the road and go, or catch a flight, taking a trip for your birthday would be a perfect idea. Whether you are traveling to see friends and/or family members, or just want to go somewhere new and exotic, this is a great option. Plan ahead to request time off work for a few days, and enjoy yourself. You could also plan for a short day trip to a nearby resort or somewhere nice that is close enough not to change your work schedule, but far enough to be able to enjoy something different than what you're used to.
Make plans with coworkers. If you are cool with the people that you work with, make plans to celebrate your birthday with them. A dinner would be a nice option, or even a fun night of bowling, bar hopping, or a concert. This is a good option for those who don't live close to their friends or family, but don't really want to spend their special day alone. We spend a lot of time with our work family, so there are probably quite a few coworkers that wouldn't mind helping you make your day special.
Get a makeover. There's no better time than the start of a new year in life to remix your look, or create a whole new one. Use the special day to try an exciting hairstyle, and buy a few things to wear that you never would've thought to wear before. Take some fashion risks you were too afraid to take last year. It's a new year, don't be afraid to show off a new and improved you. This is a great confidence booster as well.
Go on a date. Yes, I did mention going out on a date. There is no rule in any book that states that a single woman is not allowed to be wined and dined unless she has a boyfriend or husband. If you have a guy (or guys) calling you and wanting to take you out for your birthday, by all means allow yourself to be courted on your special day! This doesn't mean you should let just anybody take you out to eat. However, if a gentleman that you are interested in is respectful of you and showing interest as well, there is nothing wrong with allowing him to take you out for a day or night on the town. This is just a date. It doesn't have to end in a bedroom unless you allow it to end there. Enjoy the company of a decent guy that has shown that he wants to be in your life.
