Happy Birthday JetBlue

Winning entry in JetBlue's Crewmember Tailfin Design Contest called Building Blocks by Troy Bokosky (Photo Credit - JetBlue)The new kid on the block just turned 10 years old on February 11, 2010. JetBlue Airways, the all economy class value added carrier, celebrated the event by rolling out an Airbus A320 painted in a unique 10-themed livery to signify the carrier's entry into its second decade, commemorating the past while looking ahead toward the future.

As Dave Barger, JetBlue's CEO put it, "We created a customer service company that happens to fly airplanes. Since 2000, we have succeeded in building a new airline category that focuses on friendly service, free snacks and drinks, comfortable leather seating with ample legroom and complimentary satellite radio and live TV on personal seatback screens. We look forward to our next 10 years and thank all of our loyal customers and crewmembers for an incredible decade. We will continue to refine and refresh our product by listening to the valuable feedback from them while delivering more destinations, more choices and more value to our customers!"

The airline also used the occasion to announce its Crewmember Tailfin Design Contest winner. The winning design was chosen from among the top five finalists by public voting between December 8, 2009 and January 31, 2010. More than 30,000 votes were cast.

As the carrier expressed it, "JetBlue has a long tradition of crewmember named planes, however this will mark the first time a plane has been adorned by a design submitted by a crewmember and voted on by the public. With a full 30% of over 30,000 votes submitted, Building Blocks was clearly a fan favorite, and we're proud to add it to our fleet of over 150 aircraft."

JetBlue inaugurated service between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Airport (FLL) with two daily nonstop flights on February 11, 2000. JetBlue offers the most nonstop departures from JFK and the most domestic departures from the New York metro area of any major domestic carrier. JetBlue is also the single largest airline operating nonstop between New York and Florida, and the 7th largest passenger carrier in the United States, serving 60 destinations in 20 states, Puerto Rico and 11 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America.

So make a wish and blow out the candles. Our congratulations go out to JetBlue for another decade, and beyond, of continued success.

Did not know they've been around that long. Have never flown them- their market is limited- but have heard great things.

Hey... my last comment didn't "take!" Guess I'll post again. We don't have JetBlue in Dallas but if we did, I'd use them. Hope they will eventually grow bigger and start flying out of here. Best wishes to them on their anniversary!

I've never traveled with Jet Blue but have with Easy Jet and Ryan Air which are European equivalents and they are worth the cheap deals they give.

Will they be one of the airlines who take advantage of the new airport in Panama city beach, FL? What foresight for the small town the size of Peninsula, and of the tourist industry there...build a REAL international airport, and have visitors come from around the world...sure would do poor bankruptcy-bound San Diego good to have thinkers like this...to remove the cargo truck diesel pollution (Lindbergh has only .1% of its flights as cargo!..all the rest is trucked from LAX & Ontario, bringing the diesel pollution here to 'service' its goods & products! Jet fuel is the least polluting as it has to 'burn clean') San Diego doesn't have to put in new roads or bridges, like PCB, its 'airport improvement funds' could go toward a real, world class transit system..as SLC,Phoenix and other cities have for their OWN counties, first. We need to look at 'what works' here instead of 'copying the failures' of LAX & OC!

Hopefully we'll have JetBlue here in MSP one day, but with DL owning the route to JFK it may be a while, or never. Good carrier to fly on when the opportunity arises.

I've never flown this airline, but it's pricing and management structure surely appears attractive...
