How old are you? 40. It was 1969 when a computer scientist at the University of California sent a message that contained “LO” and the message was  intended to be “LOGIN” but the system crashed.

"Hence, the first message on the Internet was ‘LO' -- as in ‘Lo and behold!' states Leonard Kleinrock, a computer scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles who sent the first message across the Internet .  Then the Internet was known as Arpanet and  the exact date Oct 29, 1969.

Out the top 20 countries with the highest number of Internet users China is number with 20.3%. And the United States coming in second with 13.6 percent of percent of world users per the Internet World Stats “an International website featuring up to date world Internet Usage, Population Statistics and Internet Market Research Data, for over 233 individual countries and world regions.”

Internet usage is also monitored by the U.S. Census Bureau a government website. As of June 2009,  US households with internet access has gone from 18 percent in 1997 to 62 percent in 2007.

    Forty years old - but it took a long time for it to be developed and commercially useful. I think it came into common usage in the early 1990's.
