It's the late great Bettie Page's birthday today. An icon's age is her own business, so no one's exactly sure about her date of birth, but most guess she was born April 22, 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee, which means she'd be 88. Sadly, Bettie left this earth December 11, 2008. Bettie's uniquely charming style and dazzling energy has inspired gazillions of women and turned on gazillions more men, including my husband Max. And of course, she's also inspired some guys and turned on quite a few ladies--and a lot of folks in between.
One of the most important radio shows I ever did was the interview I did with Bettie Page. We talked about her nude modeling, her fetish work with Irving Klaw, her ordeal with Senator Estes Kefauver, her Born-Again Christianity, my “sexy voice” (according to Bettie), God and the Garden of Eden. Her manager said she would only talk to me for 10 minutes, but we chatted for over an hour.

Now that she's a Queen in Heaven, I just hope she's having a ball, dancing and playing "naked as a jaybird" as she told me "God intended" for Adam and Eve, and her. Or maybe she's wearing one of her cute and kinky, handmade lingerie outfits, going over the knee of some sexy angel for a nice birthday spanking. Ah Bettie, how you still inspire our fantasies!
