This years Mother's Day celebration marks the 100th anniversary of Mother's Day. President Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation creating Mother’s Day, the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers in 1914.
This was largely due to the campaign efforts of Anna Jarvis, who had successfully campaigned to have several states officially recognize Mother's Day before President Wilson made it a national holiday.
There had been other earlier attempts, mostly on the local level, to set aside a day to honor mothers in the U.S.A. but Jarvis is widely acknowledged as the founder of the modern Mother's Day in the U.S.A.
To honor mom I've included some quotations concerning mothers and motherhood. Happy Mother's Day!
