Hapa Sushi at Cherry Creek North has a vibrant ambiance that incites conversation and interaction.

Far from traditional with a fresh and modern outlook from the art that is exhibited on the walls to the dishes Hapa serves.

Taste buds will never grow tired with weekly featured drink specials crafted by staff and paired with select food specials that include a choice of an appetizer or soup, fresh and tested, high grade quality sashimi or nigiri and a sushi roll.

I throw caution to the wind and submit to omakase which means to entrust. Basically stating “chef’s choice” in Japanese.

I begin with an Easy Tiger libation maybe to calm the eagerness of the sushi that awaits me.The Easy Tiger includes Patron Silver; cucumber & jalapeno infused sake, Cointreau with lime juice and a slice of orange.

This libation is delicately balanced with the abating sinister XXX Roll. The XXX Roll is comprised of fresh avocado slices and tempura asparagus wrapped with hamachi (otherwise known as yellowtail) that is slightly seared, topped with jalapenos and kissed with olive oil and ponzu sauce that lightly coats the roll creating a smooth finish on the tongue. A refreshing light bite with a spicy kick that awakens my mouth.

After my tiger has been eased, I move onto Hapa’s featured roll, the Forbidden Fruit or in this case a forbidden roll that contains fresh water eel, shrimp tempura, goat cheese, shiso leaf (which is a Japanese herb that has a light mint and lemon finish) and strawberry that is artfully rolled and drizzled with a sweet soy and balsamic reduction.

The Forbidden Fruit roll has a sweet, tangy finish. The shrimp provides a crunch, the eel rounds out the protein providing a ying/yang balance of the strawberry and goat cheese. The soy and reduced balsamic vinegar provides instruction that dunking of additional soy sauce or wasabi mix should not occur and the shiso leaf cleanses the palate and prepares it for the next bite.

The restaurant buzzes with the exchange of conversation between sushi enthusiasts and an attentive and knowledgeable staff of the cuisine – a flow and pulse continues in the restaurant while each bite is savored.

Quick Tip: Guests who are anxious to get their fastest sushi fix, should visit during the prime time hours of 5pm to 7pm.
