Bowling’s quote of the week in L.A. County:

Hans Kostrzewski of Oak Park turned 39 years old Tuesday but he had a difficult time celebrating that night at AMF Woodlake Lanes in Woodland Hills.

A 183-average bowler, Hans struggled through split-marred games of 136 and 149 before finally finding his rhythm in his third and final game.

Hans (shown in photo) bagged two turkeys (three strikes in a row) en route to a robust 208. His turning-point moment came in the seventh frame – after his first turkey.

He left the dreaded 1-2-4-6-10, a version of “Grandma’s teeth,” and an extremely difficult pickup. Yet, Hans fired a missile that hit its target, sliding the four pin across the alley and upending the six and 10 pins to convert his spare.

Was it a lucky shot? Was it all skill? In any event, it was a huge shot on Hans’ birthday.

Said Hans’ teammate Christy Fentress: “That was a gift.”

Said Hans: “It was.”
