Chili Cook Off

Heat up your Labor Day Weekend with the 19th Annual Chili Cook Off in Hanover. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, Aug. 31 starting at 11 a.m. and promises to be a day of fun, entertainment, music and of course great food.

According to the International Chili Society, the Hanover Chili Cook Off is a staple in the community and a time for family entertainment, vendors, chili tasting and raising funds for local non-profit organizations. It was built around the PA State Chili Cooking Championship.

The Chili Cook Off is open to the public, and entry forms and process information may be found online at the site included below. Standard entries will be accepted until the day of the event.

In addition to having a chance to compete or taste test the chili fixings presented, the day promises an array of other fun and exciting things to do. This year’s entertainment schedule will include the Kelly Bell Band, Jah Works, Chedus Snow Mother Truckers and many more. Randini the Remarkable Juggler will be back again at this year’s event to entertain crowds and mesmerize onlookers. Also onsite for this year’s Chili Cook Off will be Suzanne Grover of Simply the Best Face Painting and Caricatures. Changing Faces 4 Fun will also be onsite offering up face painting.

For children, there will be a coloring contest, which has been part of this festival’s tradition since its inception almost two decades ago. For the contest, children will be given a coloring page representation of a chili pepper which they must decorate and then submit to win a $25 gift card. There will be one winner from each of the following age groups: 3 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 12.

Standard admission to the Annual Chili Cook Off is $8.50 a person. Children under 12 and active military personnel with an ID are permitted for free. Tickets may be purchased online (until 8 p.m. tonight, Aug. 30) or at the gate during the time of the event. The Cook Off will be held at Good Field, at N. Forney Avenue in Hanover.
