Hanna continues his quest at the 104th Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship

The 104th Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship continued on Friday July 25 at the Mission Hills Country Club. The country club is a par 70 18-hole championship course that measures from 5,229 yards at the front tee to 6,454 yards at the back tees.

Chase Hanna of Leawood, Kan. continued to defend his crown from 2013, squaring off against Shane Gilbert of Derby, Kan. in the Round of 32. Hanna posted birdies on 4, 5, and 9 to make the turn three up on Gilbert. Gilbert tried to rally on the back nine with a birdie on 10 cutting the lead to two up. Hanna proved too strong making birdie on 11 and 13 to defeat Gilbert 4 and 3.

The Round of 16 began on Friday after conclusion of the Round of 32. Hanna continued his domination on the course going against Beckler in the afternoon match. Hanna made birdie on 2 and four on the front, with Beckler making birdie on 7 and 9 leaving the match all square on the turn. The two traded pars through 13 and on 14, 15, and 17 Hanna made birdie to Beckler’s pars to take the match 3 and 1.

Other results of the round of 16: Herman over Foth 2 and 1, Norton over Courington 4 and 2, Argotisinger over Wempe in 21 holes, Dittmer over Greene 2 and 1, Stevens over Grove 5 and 4, Yates over Burton one up, and Albers over Wiltse 2 and 1.

Play resumes on Saturday morning and is free for the public to attend.
