I'm a firm believer that certain bands fit certain venues and for their live shows to be appreciated 110% you have to get them in the right environment. Now don't get me wrong, if a band is good none of that will matter; however, the proper setting can enhance a show tenfold!
The first time I saw Brooklyn-based Hank & Cupcakes was this past February at New World Brewery. The show was amazing! Although I'm a big fan of catching great live music at NWB, I felt as though H & C's high energy live show would be best appreciated somewhere with more room to dance; it looks as though my prayers have been answered with tonight's show being held at Czar.
Not only is Czar a great bar, but it's the perfect place to let loose and feel the music move through you from any of their awesome resident DJs. Czar will garner a crowd that is ready, willing, and very able to go completely wild when Hank & Cupcakes bring their drums and bass infused dance pop-with-a-bite to the stage; filled to the brim with sexuality and attitude.
These New Yorkers (by way of Israel!) now how to work a crowd and the aesthetics of this duo work perfectly with their sound. Sagit aka "Cupcakes" has a ruckus sort of drumming style, standing all the while so her tiny frame can belt out anything-but-tiny vocals. Ariel aka "Hank" brings a fullness to their songs with his distinct bass lines and multi-effects pedals.
Having this show on the night that Czar has dubbed as "Popsickle Party" is the perfect compliment to the band; both entities are sweet but with an adult twist and will leave you a little sticky ( whether it be from sweat or melted popsicle) at the end. As always, there will be free drinks from 10-11pm, free entry until 10:30pm and a measly $5 after that! You really have no excuse to miss out tonight, so don't bother trying to come up with one.
See you on the dance floor!
