Hang on, help is coming

“Hang on, help is coming!” declared Rev. Elvis Hollie during Sunday morning worship service at New Vision Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Explicating the text of Psalms 121, Rev. Hollie proclaimed that “This Psalm is about the journey of pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem with robbers and thieves along the way.”

As he went on, he painted vivid pictures of the dangers these pilgrims faced and the weariness they must have felt. That is why David writes this Psalm to remind them that “God will protect them along the way.”

He then brought the meaning on the Psalm to the people before him by saying, “Many of us are traveling this summer. We too need to know that God will protect us along the dangerous highways and byways.”

He chided the enthusiastic audience for placing too much reliance on government to solve the problems of today and to protect them. “Far too many of you are looking to capitol hill for your help when you should be looking to Calvary Hill,” Rev. Hollie concluded among shouts of amen.
Music for the morning worship was provided by the heavenly voices of New Vision’s dynamic adult choir.
